Technology is the tool we use to reach people at scale around the world, a human voice is what allows us to move them. This project began as a collaboration between the in-house team at Gengo along with Tokyo-based design studio, Bento Graphics. The brief was to develop a more distinctive, expressive illustration voice primarily to aid in communications with our 20,000+ strong pool of translators. I worked closely with another art director in providing feedback and QA, adapting, and maintaining its spirit throughout various applications.
Our illustrations were predominately rolled out digitally to our blogs and newsletters. This updated style is personable; complementing the informal tone of voice the company used within our translator community. I also led updates to our brand guidelines to provide a much needed source of truth and reference for our internal design team as well as for external vendors.
