Gengo is a Tokyo-headquartered tech company offering crowdsourced translation and AI training data. During a two year tenure with Gengo, I’ve contributed to a number of projects spanning brand development through to product. This particular project explores an update to the customer-facing web presence as Gengo pivots towards a larger, more sophisticated enterprise client base.
Work commenced between the product and growth teams to analyse and roll-out elements that needed reworking on the website. The main objective in qualifying Gengo as an established partner for translation were predominately through multiplying examples of expert and user social proof.
As the lead designer for this project, my role involved distilling this renewed messaging into our existing brand that felt true to the targeted user groups and optimised for clarity. It was also important to consolidate and detail work produced into style guides and our UI kit to better streamline workflows. Designs and subsequent work were validated through A/B testing, showing consistent lifts of 10–15% in sales qualified leads and retail orders.
New features
Gengo’s design and front-end development teams were running into design and technical debt with the speed in which we were updating and deploying new features. As a team, we decided to embark on updating our existing design system that could alleviate the time and resources currently being expended on building many new components and modules from scratch.
As the longest standing designer on the team, I led the charge for facilitating and executing on this project. This involved planning/prioritisation between design, product and dev; identifying elements and patterns that needed consolidating, and maintaining and updating documentation.
