Gifts That Don’t Suck are a set of greeting cards sold in One Girl’s online store. Prices ranged from as little as five dollars through to three hundred dollars; the concept being that the shopper was not only purchasing a card but also donating to various education initiatives. Whether it be a new pair of school shoes, raw materials to build classrooms, to even a year’s supply of sanitary products.

As the organisation was also embarking on a rebrand, I led the redesign of the cards to reflect these new changes, as well as to elevate the existing design to something that could encourage further sales. I addressed this through suggesting more sophisticated typography and illustration, rivaling conventional stationery without erasing the playful tongue-in-cheek messaging that shared One Girl’s mission.

The relaunch of the new cards proved to be successful (with certain varieties selling out soon after launching), and continued to be sold for a number of years after release.
